Reports of a powerful earthquake rattled Delhi-NCR and various parts of North India following a 5.9-magnitude seismic event in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, resulting in at least 8 casualties. The sudden tremors caused panic among residents, prompting many to evacuate homes and office buildings.

The earthquake, which occurred around 9:50 pm, was felt in multiple cities such as Noida, Chandigarh, Ludhiana in Punjab, and Poonch, Srinagar, Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Dehradun, among other areas.

Residents in tall buildings reported feeling the tremors for a few seconds, with many noticing movements and shaking of household items.

Describing the experience, Chandigarh resident Baldev Chand, who resides on the second floor, stated, “I felt a strong jolt that lasted for a few seconds.”

Numerous individuals took to social media to share their tremor experiences. One user named Vaishali Poddar mentioned feeling the earthquake in Kashmir, noting, “I’ve never experienced such intense tremors before.”

Another individual from Delhi remarked, “The intensity of the tremors was so strong that fans and beds in people’s homes began shaking.” Some users on the platform highlighted the additional impact of unexpected rain in Delhi-NCR coinciding with the earthquake.

EIGHT KILLED IN AFGHAN

Reports from Afghan authorities indicated that eight individuals lost their lives and a child was injured due to a collapsed house in Kabul following the earthquake.

The seismic activity’s epicenter was located in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province near the Pakistan-Tajikistan border within the Hindu Kush region. Officials mentioned that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 150 km.

The earthquake tremors were briefly felt in various cities in Pakistan, including Islamabad, parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar, and other regions.
