Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has advised young Mumbai batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, to observe Virat Kohli’s expertise in finishing run chases.
During a recent match, KKR faced a challenging target of 227 runs when Raghuvanshi came to bat after an early dismissal in the powerplay.
The 21-year-old seized the opportunity to steer his team towards victory. He showcased his skills by scoring a rapid fifty in just 27 balls, but unfortunately, his innings was cut short by a run-out in the 11th over.
Sehwag praised Raghuvanshi’s performance but emphasized the importance of capitalizing on such opportunities to influence the outcome of the game. He highlighted Kohli’s approach to chasing targets as a valuable lesson for young players.
A misunderstanding with teammate Rinku Singh resulted in Raghuvanshi’s dismissal, triggering a collapse for KKR, who went from 120 for 4 to being bundled out for 161, falling short in the chase and suffering another defeat.
KKR’s loss prompted captain Ajinkya Rahane to defend his batting style in a fiery post-match press conference. Rahane refuted criticism of his strike rate and attributed it to biased opinions from individuals who may not appreciate his success.
The three-time IPL champions will face Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens on April 6, followed by a match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 9.
