Yuzvendra Chahal has given an update on Shreyas Iyer following a hand injury sustained by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman during their IPL 2026 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday, March 31 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur in New Chandigarh.
Iyer was struck on the wrist while at the non-striker’s end during Punjab’s chase, prompting concern in the team dugout. Despite showing signs of discomfort, he briefly continued before being dismissed by Prasidh Krishna for 18 runs off 11 balls, a knock that included two sixes.
Chahal, who delivered figures of 4-0-28-2 in Punjab’s narrow three-wicket victory, assured supporters that there is no cause for alarm and confirmed that Iyer is in good health.
“He’s perfectly fine. There’s no cause for concern,” Chahal stated during the post-match media briefing.
In the same match, Cooper Connolly received accolades from Chahal as he was named the Player of the Match on his IPL debut. Connolly, batting at No. 3, showcased an impressive performance by scoring 72 runs off 44 deliveries, laced with five boundaries and five maximums, assisting Punjab Kings in successfully chasing down 163 runs with five balls to spare.
Chahal commended Connolly for his composure and suggested that he could emerge as a standout player in this year’s IPL season.
“Absolutely. I believe he is around 20 years old, but he exhibits a strong desire to perform. The fact that in his very first match, under challenging circumstances, batting at No. 3, he displayed such maturity mentally,” Chahal remarked.
“He comprehends the situation and knows that if he stays till the end, he must finish the game. His maturity level is evident, and it is a positive sign for our team. Considering his current form, I anticipate he will be one of the standout performers this season,” Chahal added.
Following their triumph over the Titans, Punjab Kings will aim to maintain their winning streak as they face off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 3 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
