Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to Induct Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Wu-Tang Clan, and More

ArtRock & Roll Hall of Fame to Induct Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Wu-Tang Clan, and More

British singer Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, and Joy Division/New Order are set to be honored with induction into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The latest additions also include first-time contenders Wu-Tang Clan and the late Luther Vandross.

The announcement was made during the latest episode of the popular television show “American Idol.” Eligibility for induction requires artists to have released their debut commercial recording at least 25 years prior. The final selection was based on votes from over 1,200 individuals, including artists, historians, and music industry insiders.

Phil Collins, known for his soft rock style and previous induction with Genesis, earned his place with hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” boasting eight Grammy awards, including the coveted Album of the Year in 1985 for “No Jacket Required.” Sade, recognized for soul-jazz vocals and hits like “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo,” also secured a spot this year.

Iron Maiden, a significant force in the new wave of British heavy metal, earned their place with iconic albums such as “The Number of the Beast.” Luther Vandross, a legendary artist who sold over 25 million albums, was honored posthumously for his contributions to music.

The upcoming ceremony on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles will celebrate the induction of these music icons. The event will be broadcast on ABC and Disney+ in December, with plans to return to Cleveland next year.

Additionally, special categories will include recognitions for Queen Latifah, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons under the Early Influence category. Musical Excellence awards will be presented to Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin. The Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award will pay tribute to the late Ed Sullivan for his groundbreaking contributions to the music industry.

Among those who did not make the cut this year are Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, Jeff Buckley, Pink, New Edition, and Shakira. Last year’s inductees included Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden, Salt-N-Pepa, The White Stripes, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Carol Kaye, Nicky Hopkins, Lenny Waronker, Thom Bell, and Warren Zevon.
