Chief of Navy Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, revealed that the Indian Navy was on the verge of launching an attack on Pakistan from the sea during Operation Sindoor following the tragic Pahalgam terror incident, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, mostly tourists. Admiral Tripathi disclosed this information during a naval investiture ceremony in Mumbai, mentioning that the Navy decided to pause the maritime strike after Pakistan made a formal request to halt the ongoing kinetic actions.
Admiral Tripathi emphasized that the Indian forces had achieved a high level of preparedness during Operation Sindoor before the temporary cessation of kinetic activities. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by two senior naval officers in the operation as he presented them with Yudh Seva Medals. The Navy chief highlighted that the successful execution of the operation had bolstered public trust in the Navy’s capabilities. Additionally, he pointed out a significant event where the Prime Minister spent 17 hours overnight onboard a naval vessel along the western seaboard, showcasing India’s maritime prowess and operational depth.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, with the objective of targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (POK) in response to the Pahalgam attack. Despite US President Donald Trump claiming credit for mediating a resolution between India and Pakistan, India clarified that the cessation of hostilities was achieved through direct discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.
