Despite being recognized as one of the top T20 spinners, Rashid has experienced a quieter period in the last two seasons, claiming only 19 wickets in 27 matches compared to his remarkable 2023 season with 27 wickets in 17 games.
During the interview, Rashid highlighted how bowlers have lagged behind in the IPL and T20 cricket due to the rapid evolution of batsmen. He emphasized the need to introduce new variations to match the advancements made by batters.
Rashid mentioned his contemplation of unused bowling techniques, emphasizing the challenges of implementing them during high-pressure matches like the IPL. He emphasized the importance of honing these skills in longer formats like ODIs to ensure control before introducing them in crucial games.
When asked about his new delivery, Rashid shared his focus on enhancing deception by making his standard delivery and googly indistinguishable to the batsmen. He mentioned working closely with analysts to improve various aspects like pace, release, and tactics to outsmart the opponents.
Despite his methodical approach, Rashid emphasized the minor margins for change in spin bowling, stressing the importance of consistency in grip, action, and release between different deliveries. He expressed optimism about integrating these enhancements into his gameplay soon.
