Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the spouse of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has responded directly to allegations made by Congress, denying ownership of multiple foreign passports and overseas assets. In a statement shared on social media, Riniki refuted the claims, stating that neither she, her family, nor her husband have any business interests or assets in Dubai or any other country outside India, dismissing the accusations as baseless.
She also issued a challenge to Congress leaders, questioning whether Gaurav Gogoi’s wife has ever held a bank account in Pakistan and urging transparency on such matters. The controversy arose following assertions by Congress members Pawan Khera and Gaurav Gogoi that Riniki Sarma possesses passports from the UAE, Egypt, and Antigua-Barbuda, owns properties in Dubai, and runs a company in Wyoming, USA.
Khera alleged that these assets were not disclosed in Chief Minister Sarma’s election affidavit, raising concerns about adherence to Indian regulations. Riniki and her husband dismissed the accusations as politically motivated and based on falsified documents. She clarified that images and passports had been manipulated using information from a Pakistani social media group, with her photo added to a fake Egyptian passport.
Several discrepancies were pointed out by Sarma regarding the alleged documents, including the fact that the UAE Golden Visa is not a passport, the Egyptian passport in question belonged to another individual, the Antigua-Barbuda passport had errors in expiration dates and MRZ codes, and the Wyoming company mentioned by Congress was supposedly created online.
Riniki emphasized that these errors invalidate the allegations as entirely untrue and intentionally deceptive. Sarma accused Congress of using these forged documents to sway the Assam elections, alleging interference backed by Pakistan. He stated that his wife has taken legal action against Khera and assured that those spreading misinformation would be held accountable.
Riniki’s response has garnered significant attention online, with citizens and BJP supporters sharing her defense and questioning the motives behind Congress’ accusations. She highlighted that the timing of the allegations coincided with the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, framing the situation as a blend of personal and political defense.
