India’s Vaishnavi Adkar faced a challenging match against Aunchisa Chanta, resulting in a loss that gave Thailand a 1-0 lead in the Billie Jean King Cup. Despite being ranked higher at 383, Vaishnavi struggled and lost in straight sets after a delay caused by rain. Aunchisa dominated the game, taking control early on and securing the win in just over an hour.
Vaishnavi had a shaky start, making errors and losing the opening game. Although she showed some resistance in the third game, Aunchisa maintained her composure and extended her lead. The Thai player’s strong baseline play and consistent performance allowed her to easily claim the first set.
In the second set, Vaishnavi managed to break Aunchisa’s serve early on but couldn’t maintain the momentum, leading to more errors on her end. Despite a brief fightback towards the end of the set, Aunchisa remained steady and closed out the match with a solid performance.
With India now relying on Sahaja Yamlapalli to face Patcharin Cheapchandej in the next singles match, the team needs a win to stay in the competition.
