Rashid Khan recently shared insights into the adjustments he made both technically and mentally to regain his form post-surgery struggles. The Gujarat Titans bowler acknowledged that he had complicated his bowling post-injury by overthinking mechanics instead of relying on his natural strengths.
“I was experimenting with various aspects, focusing on my action and landing,” Rashid revealed during an interview. “I realized that my strength lies in maintaining line and length. I had deviated from that, and returning to it made a significant difference.”
A minor tweak in his bowling length played a crucial role in his resurgence. Rashid pinpointed that he had been bowling closer to six meters instead of his ideal five-and-a-half, a small adjustment that greatly enhanced his effectiveness.
By simplifying his approach and prioritizing consistency, the leg-spinner has started showcasing glimpses of his top form again, particularly on pitches that favor disciplined bowling.
In a recent match against Delhi Capitals, Rashid’s improved performance was evident as he played a pivotal role in Gujarat Titans’ victory. He finished with impressive figures of 3 for 17, making crucial breakthroughs to disrupt Delhi’s chase.
Rashid’s early dismissals of Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi, followed by removing Axar Patel, shifted the momentum in Gujarat’s favor during the middle overs, ultimately securing a nail-biting win against Delhi Capitals, despite a late surge from David Miller.
Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen praised Rashid’s resurgence, noting that the spinner was getting closer to his best form, even though there is still room for improvement within the team’s bowling unit.
Rashid Khan’s journey back to form has been challenging, with a lower-back injury leading to surgery in late 2023. Despite managing his workload post-surgery, recurring discomfort affected his performances in 2024 and 2025. However, his recent display marks a positive step in his comeback, with a focus on rebuilding confidence and sticking to the basics.
As Rashid Khan’s confidence grows and his form improves, his contribution could be vital for Gujarat Titans as the season progresses.
