Star moguls skier Mikaël Kingsbury is set to compete at the upcoming Milano-Cortina Winter Games representing Canada in freestyle skiing. The announcement of the 25-athlete team was made jointly by Freestyle Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Hailing from Deux-Montagnes, Quebec, Kingsbury has a successful track record at the Olympics, having clinched a gold medal in men’s moguls at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, a silver in 2014 at Sochi, and another silver at the 2022 Beijing Games. As the all-time leader in World Cup victories, Kingsbury will have the opportunity to aim for two medals in Italy, with dual moguls making its Olympic debut next month.
Coming off a strong season on the World Cup circuit, which saw him secure his 100th career victory on home soil in Val Saint-Come, Quebec, Kingsbury is in top form. The Canadian team also includes returning Olympic medalists such as Cassie Sharpe with gold and silver in halfpipe, Rachael Karker with a bronze in halfpipe, and Lewis Irving, Marion Thenault, and Miha Fontaine with a bronze in mixed team aerials.
Expressing his pride in representing Canada for the fourth time at the Olympics, Kingsbury stated, “I always felt it was a privilege to wear my country’s colors, and this year will be even more memorable for me.” With the introduction of two events for the first time in Olympic history, Kingsbury aims to stand on the podium in both, making it a remarkable achievement in what may be his last Games.
The freestyle skiing events are scheduled throughout the Winter Games starting from February 7, marking the first day of competitions. The full Canadian team includes athletes across various disciplines such as moguls, dual moguls, aerials, slopestyle, big air, and halfpipe, representing a strong and diverse roster for the upcoming competition.
