Kristýna Kaltounková and Anne Cherkowski both found the net, with Kayle Osborne making 31 saves as the New York Sirens defeated the Montreal Victoire 2-1 during the PWHL’s Takeover Tour at Capital One Arena. Montreal, previously on a three-game winning streak, saw their run come to an end.
The game, held in Washington, D.C., saw a record attendance of 17,228 spectators, setting a new record for the largest in-arena turnout for a women’s hockey match in the United States. The previous attendance record of 16,014 was set on November 28 during the Seattle Torrent’s inaugural home game.
Sarah Fillier contributed two assists for New York, who have won five of their last six games. The Sirens currently have 22 points, trailing Boston by four points at the top of the league standings and leading Minnesota by one point.
Kaltounková, the top overall draft pick in the 2025 PWHL draft, now has nine goals this season, tying with Minnesota’s Kendall Coyne Schofield for the most goals in the league.
Maggie Flaherty managed to score a power-play goal for the Victoire late in the first period. Kaltounková opened the scoring just 84 seconds into the game by putting away a rebound from a shot by Fillier. Despite struggling on power plays previously, the Sirens converted this opportunity, improving to 5 of 40 with an extra skater this season.
Cherkowski then secured the victory for the Sirens, scoring to give them a 2-1 lead with 5:13 remaining in the second period. Desbiens, the Victoire’s goaltender, made 25 saves during the game.
Having lost to Montreal 4-0 on November 25, the Sirens avenged their defeat with a 4-3 home win on January 2, during which Osborne made a career-high 43 saves. Montreal will face Minnesota next, while New York is set to host Ottawa in their upcoming game.
