“Public Inquiry Probes Vancouver Police in Myles Gray Tragedy”

National"Public Inquiry Probes Vancouver Police in Myles Gray Tragedy"

A public inquiry delved into the interactions with Myles Gray prior to his demise in August 2015, examining the actions of Vancouver Police Department officers Kory Folkestad, Eric Birzneck, Derek Cain, Josh Wong, Beau Spencer, Hardeep Sahota, and Nick Thompson in Gray’s death.

Gray succumbed to injuries sustained during an encounter with the police, suffering severe physical harm including ruptured testicles, a fractured eye socket, a broken voice box, and extensive bruising.

Witnesses who observed Gray leading up to the incident testified at the hearing. Andreah Pilgrim, a Burnaby insurance company employee, recounted seeing Gray exhibiting erratic behavior near a bus stop, eventually removing his shirt and tank top.

Another witness, Muhammed Reza, detailed an incident where Gray sprayed his mother with a hose and made inappropriate comments. Concerned about Gray’s behavior, Reza followed him as he displayed erratic actions, such as hitting himself.

The testimony revealed a confrontation between Gray and a female VPD officer, escalating into a physical struggle before additional officers intervened. Following an ensuing scuffle out of sight, screams were heard, leading to injuries to some officers.

The ongoing hearing, spanning 10 weeks, continues to investigate Gray’s death and the conduct of the involved police officers.
