“CSK’s Young Star Mhatre Retired Out After Fifty in IPL Milestone”

Sports"CSK's Young Star Mhatre Retired Out After Fifty in IPL Milestone"

Chennai Super Kings witnessed a remarkable performance as their young talent, Ayush Mhatre, became the second player in the franchise’s history to be retired out after achieving a fifty in the IPL. Mhatre, aged 20, scored 59 runs off 36 balls before being withdrawn during the match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

In the 18th over of the game, with CSK positioned well at 175/2 and aiming to capitalize on the final overs, Mhatre was replaced. His partnership of 113 runs with Sanju Samson now stands as the second-highest for CSK against Delhi Capitals in IPL history, only behind the 141-run opening partnership between Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad in 2023.

Mhatre played a crucial role in maintaining the momentum for CSK throughout the middle overs, ensuring a steady flow of runs after a strong start by the openers. Despite an early dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad for 15 runs off 18 balls, Mhatre and Samson controlled the innings effectively.

Both batters had their share of luck, with Mhatre surviving a couple of chances and Samson being dropped on 52. However, Delhi Capitals failed to capitalize on these opportunities. Samson powered through to score a century off 52 balls, taking charge once he reached the fifty-run mark.

As CSK approached the final phase, the scoring rate slowed down slightly due to tight bowling by Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan. To inject fresh impetus into the innings, CSK decided to retire Mhatre out and send in Shivam Dube. Dube played aggressively, targeting boundaries and helping CSK surpass the 200-run mark.

CSK concluded their innings at 212/2, built on the solid partnership between Mhatre and Samson, with a strong finish in the last overs. Mhatre now joins a select group of players in the IPL who have been retired out mid-innings, including the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Atharva Taide, Sai Sudharsan, Tilak Varma, and Devon Conway, who was the first CSK player to be retired out despite reaching a half-century.

Overall, it was a memorable match for Chennai Super Kings with an impressive batting display from their young talents, setting a challenging total for Delhi Capitals to chase.
