Animesh Kujur showcased a strong comeback performance at the Indian Athletics Series, clinching a thrilling victory in the 100m race by a narrow margin before securing a comfortable win in the 200m event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday.
The prominent Indian sprinter disclosed that he implemented a crucial technical adjustment by switching his starting block following a disappointing false start at the National Indoor Championships in Bhubaneswar last month. This strategic change, recommended by his coach, has already proven beneficial as Kujur delivered composed performances in both sprint disciplines.
At 22 years old, Kujur, the record holder in the men’s 100m and 200m categories, acknowledged the impact of the recent false start incident on his mindset, especially when preparing for the 200m race. Despite the initial concerns, he expressed confidence before the 100m event, emphasizing his focus on the task at hand.
Addressing the modifications to his starting block post the National Indoor Championships, Kujur highlighted the shift made by his coach to enhance his performance, expressing enthusiasm about the adjustment.
Looking beyond domestic accolades, Kujur outlined ambitious goals for the season, aiming to achieve elite global standards in both the 100m and 200m races. He aspires to break the 10-second barrier in the 100m and the 20-second mark in the 200m, surpassing his current national records of 10.18 seconds and 20.32 seconds, respectively.
Despite the challenges posed by these targets, Kujur’s consistent progress since joining the senior circuit in 2023 has been evident. Reflecting on past experiences, he emphasized the importance of managing workload and balancing training with competitions to avoid performance setbacks.
With major events like the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games on the horizon, Kujur is focused on optimizing his peak performance for the upcoming season. He emphasized the significance of strategic planning and preparation to deliver his best performances at key competitions.
As he prepares for a crucial season ahead, including the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, Kujur remains determined to excel and showcase his athletic prowess on the international stage.
