The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed a record prize fund for the upcoming 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in England and Wales in just 60 days. The total prize pool for the tournament has been established at an impressive US$8,764,615, showcasing a 10% increase from the previous 2024 edition, where US$7,958,077 was distributed among 10 teams. Notably, the forthcoming tournament will see an expansion to include 12 teams for the first time in its history.
The champions of the event will secure a prize of US$2,340,000, while the runners-up will walk away with US$1,170,000. Additionally, both losing semi-finalists will receive US$675,000 each. During the group stage, each victory will bring in US$31,154, and all 12 participating teams are guaranteed a minimum prize pool of US$247,500.
Sanjog Gupta, the CEO of the ICC, emphasized that the prize increase mirrors the continuous advancement of women’s cricket. He stated, “The growth of women’s cricket continues to accelerate, and the expansion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to 12 teams, combined with a record prize pool, underlines our commitment to building a stronger, more competitive global game.”
The ICC also kicked off its Trophy Tour in collaboration with DP World, commencing in London, where the trophy was exhibited at Lord’s Cricket Ground, the venue for the tournament final. The tour is scheduled to traverse through European member nations such as the Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland, followed by visits to host cities in England in May. Fan engagement activities are planned at various locations, including Millennium Square in Leeds, St Peter’s Square in Manchester, Bullring in Birmingham, Cabot Circus in Bristol, Guildhall Square in Southampton, and Trafalgar Square in London.
The highly-anticipated tournament is scheduled to commence on June 12, featuring the host nation England facing off against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
