India’s Sports Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, is optimistic about the return of Formula One to the country by 2027. Efforts are underway to bring back the race to the Buddh International Circuit, the former host of the Indian Grand Prix from 2011 to 2013.
Mandaviya confirmed plans for an F1 race at the Buddh International Circuit in 2027, with ongoing discussions to finalize the arrangements. The government aims to address previous tax issues to ensure the event’s financial feasibility for organizers.
The Indian Grand Prix ceased in 2013 due to tax complexities and bureaucratic obstacles, rendering the race economically unviable. Mandaviya is actively working to resolve these concerns and has mentioned the interest of three companies in managing the circuit, with government support to enhance the project’s appeal.
Despite India’s positive outlook, sources within Formula One have cast doubts on a 2027 return, citing the sport’s packed calendar and limited expansion opportunities. Nevertheless, India remains an attractive market for Formula One, given its growing popularity among fans worldwide.
