“Little House on the Prairie” Reboot Premieres July 9, Honoring Osage Perspective

Art"Little House on the Prairie" Reboot Premieres July 9, Honoring Osage Perspective

A classic favorite, “Little House on the Prairie,” is making a return to television screens after over 40 years. This Netflix adaptation, set to premiere on July 9, aims to closely align with the beloved book series by American pioneer Laura Ingalls Wilder. The show, led by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine, is based on Wilder’s semi-autobiographical novels, chronicling the Ingalls family’s early years on the Osage Nation Reservation from 1869 to 1871.

Filmed entirely in Manitoba, Canada, the series captures the essence of the prairie landscape with its sweeping vistas and tallgrass scenery. Despite facing challenges like floods, tornadoes, and extreme weather conditions, the cast and crew persevered to bring the story to life authentically.

Unlike the original TV series, which had minimal focus on the Osage people, the new adaptation places the Osage perspective at the forefront, showcasing their culture and stories in a more central role. The portrayal of the Osage characters is guided by Osage consultants, ensuring accuracy and cultural sensitivity throughout the production.

The new “Little House on the Prairie” introduces audiences to the Ingalls family and their Osage neighbors, the Mitchells. Through engaging storylines and authentic portrayals, the series aims to provide a fresh perspective on historical narratives and challenge past misrepresentations of Native American cultures.

With a talented cast including Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, Alice Halsey, and Skywalker Hughes, the reboot promises to deliver a compelling narrative that resonates with modern audiences. Sonnenshine hopes that the series will serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of love, family, and community, inviting viewers to rediscover Wilder’s timeless literary works.

The first season of the reboot premieres on Netflix on July 9, with a second season already in the works. This reimagined version of “Little House on the Prairie” not only honors the legacy of the original series but also brings a fresh perspective to a beloved American story.
