In a thrilling match in Newark, N.J., Sarah Wozniewicz’s overtime goal secured a 4-3 victory for Ottawa after the team squandered a three-goal lead against the New York Sirens.
Contributing to Ottawa’s win were Gabbie Hughes, Rebecca Leslie, and Brianne Jenner, each tallying a goal and an assist. Despite Ottawa’s six-game winning streak being halted by a 2-1 loss to Montreal in the last outing, Gwyneth Philips made 31 crucial saves.
The New York Sirens (7-0-2-5) displayed resilience, extending their point streak to seven games. Jaime Bourbonnais, Kristin O’Neill, and Anne Cherkowski found the net for the Sirens, with Sarah Fillier providing two assists, while Callie Shanahan made 17 saves.
Hughes, Leslie, and Jenner put Ottawa in control with early goals, but Bourbonnais, O’Neill, and Cherkowski staged a comeback for the Sirens to level the score.
Looking ahead, the Ottawa Charge will face the Montreal Victoire on Saturday, while the New York Sirens will visit the Minnesota Frost on Sunday.
