The approaching 10th anniversary of Damien Chazelle’s acclaimed musical romantic-comedy “La La Land” is sparking conversations, not about the film’s visuals or its memorable ending, but about Ryan Gosling’s hand positioning in a pivotal scene. Lionsgate Studios revealed a new poster for the upcoming celebratory re-release of the movie, addressing an aspect that Gosling has expressed regrets about.
During a 2024 interview with the Wall Street Journal, Gosling confessed that if given the chance, he would redo his performance as jazz pianist Sebastian Wilder in the film. Reflecting on a specific dance sequence with Emma Stone, Gosling recalled how he deviated from the intended hand placement, opting for a pose that he believed was more stylish but ultimately disrupted the scene’s flow.
In response to Gosling’s lingering dissatisfaction, the new poster showcases a revised version of the pose, aligning more closely with Stone’s original gesture. Lionsgate, in a playful press release, acknowledged Gosling’s concerns, indicating that they took his feedback into consideration.
While Gosling seemed content with the alteration, not all fans shared his sentiment. Some social media users expressed disappointment with the change, arguing that the original contrasting poses better conveyed the essence of the movie. Despite mixed reactions, the revised poster aims to address Gosling’s lingering hand pose dilemma as the film’s anniversary approaches.
