“Vihari’s Tactical Plan to Optimize RCB Bowling Attack”

Sports"Vihari's Tactical Plan to Optimize RCB Bowling Attack"

Former India Test cricketer Hanuma Vihari has suggested a tactical approach for Royal Challengers Bangalore to accommodate both Josh Hazlewood and Jacob Duffy in the same playing XI.

Vihari, speaking on his YouTube channel, proposed that RCB could utilize the Impact Player rule effectively to optimize their bowling options without compromising team balance.

The idea is to have an Indian fast bowler like Mangesh Yadav or Rasikh Salam Dar in the XI alongside Hazlewood, allowing Romario Shepherd and Duffy to be listed as Impact Subs.

Vihari emphasized the importance of reading the match scenario for flexibility. If RCB’s batting lineup struggles, Shepherd could be brought in to strengthen the lower order. Conversely, if the top order performs well, Duffy could be chosen as the Impact Player to enhance the bowling attack.

This strategic move is crucial, especially with Shepherd not being extensively used as a bowler this season despite his all-round abilities.

Vihari’s suggestion addresses a significant selection challenge for RCB, particularly with Hazlewood’s return boosting their overseas player choices.

Hazlewood played a pivotal role in RCB’s title-winning campaign last season, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker with 22 scalps in 12 matches at an impressive average of 8.77. However, he faced a period of inactivity due to injury, missing events like the Ashes and the T20 World Cup 2026.

Upon his return against Rajasthan Royals, Hazlewood claimed 2 wickets for 44 runs. Nevertheless, he was benched in the subsequent match against Mumbai Indians, with Duffy rejoining the playing XI.

During Hazlewood’s absence earlier in the season, Duffy showcased his talent by picking up five wickets in his initial two appearances, playing a crucial role in RCB’s triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Despite Duffy’s promising performances, fitting him into the team alongside Hazlewood posed a challenge due to overseas player regulations.

Vihari’s Impact Player strategy presents a potential solution, enabling RCB to deploy both pacers based on match circumstances while maintaining a balanced team composition across all departments.
