The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has declared a reward of Rs 25 lakh for the groundstaff and curators at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. This gesture acknowledges their dedication in maintaining the pitch and outfield despite continuous rainfall during matches.
Throughout Rajasthan Royals’ three home games in Guwahati, persistent rain led to various interruptions. One match against Mumbai Indians was shortened to an 11-over contest, while encounters with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings were also affected by adverse weather. Despite these obstacles, the groundstaff ensured the pitch and outfield remained in top condition, allowing the games to proceed without significant delays.
The ACA stated, “Working under challenging weather conditions, the curator and groundstaff ensured the pitches were prepared and maintained to the highest standards. Their efforts were crucial for the smooth conduct of the matches, enhancing the venue’s national reputation.”
Guwahati served as Rajasthan Royals’ secondary home venue this season due to ongoing renovations in Jaipur. With the Guwahati leg concluded, the team will return to their primary home ground, Sawai Mansingh Stadium, on April 25. Extensive upgrades at the stadium meet Board of Control for Cricket in India standards, including refurbished stands, new elevators, advanced LED floodlights, and modernized dressing rooms. The revamp also introduces enhanced fan facilities, supported by the Rajasthan government, ensuring the venue is ready to host the remaining IPL 2026 matches.
Currently leading the points table, Rajasthan Royals have won all four matches. Led by Riyan Parag, they will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 13 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad, captained by Ishan Kishan, are seventh on the table with one win from four matches and a net run rate of -0.024.
