In a disturbing incident in Bihar’s Katihar district, authorities have uncovered a shocking attempt by a 75-year-old man to disguise his wife’s murder as a jackal attack.
The incident took place on April 2 in Azamnagar, where 70-year-old Ramni Devi reportedly passed away after allegedly being attacked by a jackal while harvesting grass in a maize field in the Alampur Diara region. Despite initial reports suggesting an animal assault, a subsequent investigation by the police revealed a different narrative.
Upon receiving a written complaint from the victim’s grandson, law enforcement officials visited the crime scene and made a significant discovery. Forensic experts recovered a sharp knife near the area, indicating that the elderly woman did not die from a wild animal attack but rather from a deliberate assault with a bladed weapon.
Following intensive questioning of family members, the truth emerged. Authorities disclosed that Ramni Devi’s husband, Dhaneshwar Singh, had wielded the knife during their work in the maize field, leading to her fatal injuries and subsequent demise.
Additionally, investigators revealed that the victim’s two grandsons were complicit in concealing the crime by hiding the murder weapon in the same field, in an effort to bolster the fabricated jackal attack narrative.
Subsequently, Azamnagar police apprehended and detained all three suspects, including the husband and the two grandsons, on criminal charges.
Barsoi SDPO Ajay Kumar confirmed that the murder stemmed from a personal feud between the elderly couple while they were engaged in fieldwork. He also stated that the grandsons’ involvement in concealing the knife was established during the investigation.
Authorities noted that all three accused parties, comprising the grandfather and the two grandsons, admitted to their roles in the crime during interrogation.
