A teenage Dalit girl met a tragic end in Uttar Pradesh after an argument with her boyfriend and his associate turned deadly, officials reported on Sunday. The incident unfolded in Deoria district on Saturday night, with the victim allegedly having her throat slit by the accused.
According to Circle Officer Sinti Sanjay Reddy, the victim, Anjali, hailing from Nautan Hathiyagarh village, fell victim to Shivam Singh and his accomplice’s violent actions.
The unfortunate episode occurred around 8 pm on Saturday when Anjali, accompanied by her younger sister and brother, ventured out to repair a mobile phone near Sahodar Patti Chowk. Two young men on a motorcycle accosted them, leading to an altercation where the siblings were physically assaulted.
In a bid to escape, the siblings noticed a knife in the possession of the attackers. Despite their efforts to flee, the accused pursued them into a wheat field, where they caught Anjali, inflicted a fatal stab wound to her neck, and fled the scene after slitting her throat as the siblings rushed back home.
Upon the family’s arrival at the location, they discovered that Anjali had succumbed to her injuries. Subsequently, the police were alerted, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Authorities disclosed that the victim had been romantically involved with Singh for the past four years, and several individuals have been taken into custody for interrogation. Efforts are underway to locate Singh, who is currently evading the authorities.
Following a complaint lodged by the family, Singh and his associate have been charged with murder under the SC/ST Act.
