Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri surprised fans by participating in a catching drill during a Mumbai Indians training session at the Wankhede Stadium. This unexpected crossover moment between football and cricket saw Chhetri engaging with players like head coach Mahela Jayawardene, captain Hardik Pandya, and key players Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar. The atmosphere was filled with light-hearted interactions as Chhetri expressed his admiration for the stadium and wished the Mumbai Indians and their fans well.
During the session, Chhetri showcased his skills by swiftly catching a loose ball, impressing the MI players with his reflexes and calmness. The players playfully suggested he should join them on the field, to which Chhetri responded with a smile, saying, “One day, Twelfth man.”
As a token of appreciation, skipper Hardik Pandya presented Chhetri with a Mumbai Indians jersey bearing his name and the number 11. The moment was captured in a video that also featured Chhetri chatting with Jayawardene, offering a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes camaraderie.
The Mumbai Indians were gearing up for their upcoming match against the Punjab Kings on April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium. Currently positioned ninth on the points table with two points from their campaign, the team is striving for a turnaround after a recent defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
