“Ontario Resident Seeks Court Protection in Wedding Case”

National"Ontario Resident Seeks Court Protection in Wedding Case"

An Ontario resident detained in a crackdown on suspected associates of Canadian fugitive Ryan Wedding is seeking court protection for the individuals willing to supervise him if he is released on bail. Rolan Sokolovski’s legal team has filed a request to block the disclosure of any details that could reveal the identities of his potential guarantors prior to his bail hearing scheduled for next week. Sokolovski, who holds both Lithuanian and Canadian citizenship, is among several Canadian nationals facing extradition to the United States in connection with an FBI inquiry into Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder reportedly linked to an international drug trafficking syndicate known for its violent activities.

According to U.S. authorities, Sokolovski is accused of money laundering for the criminal group and purchasing high-end items for Wedding. His defense attorney, Scott Fenton, argued on Friday that unveiling the identities of Sokolovski’s proposed guarantors could put them at significant risk. Conversely, prosecutors representing the Crown contended that there is no evidence of any threats to the guarantors’ safety and that withholding their identities would hinder the public’s understanding of the court’s forthcoming decision regarding Sokolovski’s potential release.

The Ontario Superior Court is expected to rule on this matter on Monday as Sokolovski’s bail hearing commences. Court documents reveal that Sokolovski, aged 37, is also a professional poker player, jeweler, and procurer. He faces allegations from the U.S. Treasury Department of overseeing financial records for the organization and funneling drug proceeds through his jewelry business. Additional court records suggest that Sokolovski crafted a valuable necklace as payment for an individual accused of assisting in the murder of a federal witness by supplying identifying information to Wedding.

The FBI has designated Wedding, who is believed to be evading capture in Mexico, as one of its top fugitives. In a separate case, a lawyer from the Toronto area allegedly involved in the criminal network was granted bail under strict conditions, including constant house arrest, with his wife and another relative serving as guarantors. This individual, Deepak Paradkar, is suspected of advising Wedding on the witness’s murder, connecting the former athlete with drug traffickers operating in North America, and overseeing intelligence activities following drug interdictions by law enforcement agencies.

In a recent development, the FBI seized an exceedingly rare Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster in Miami, estimated to be valued at $13 million, as part of its investigations into Wedding’s criminal network. It was discovered that Sokolovski had purchased this luxury vehicle.
