“OpenAI’s ChatGPT Struggles with Time Functions”

Technology"OpenAI's ChatGPT Struggles with Time Functions"

OpenAI takes pride in its AI conversational model, ChatGPT, as one of the most advanced systems currently available. Despite its impressive capabilities in research, coding, and analysis, the AI has notable limitations. One such limitation is its inability to track time or set timers. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, has acknowledged this issue and assured that it will be addressed soon.

Altman addressed the time-tracking deficiency following a viral video featuring ChatGPT on a popular social media platform. The video showcased a user asking the AI to time a run, with ChatGPT providing an inaccurate result instead of tracking the duration as expected. Altman admitted that this behavior is a known issue within the system and stated that it might take up to a year before ChatGPT can effectively handle time-related functions.

While the current AI models excel in reasoning and language tasks, they lack the necessary integration to accurately measure real-world time. Altman explained that ChatGPT can simulate understanding but struggles to interact with time in a practical sense. Despite Altman’s acknowledgment of the flaw, the AI itself seems unaware. In a subsequent video, the user challenged ChatGPT based on Altman’s statement about its time-tracking limitations. However, the AI confidently claimed to possess this capability, only to produce another incorrect result, contradicting its CEO.

This incident has garnered significant attention online, highlighting the challenges AI systems face in accurately processing time-related tasks.
