Jansen Simpson, a roofer from Chelsea, Quebec, witnessed a dramatic incident as he drove to the gym one morning. While crossing the Draveurs Bridge, he spotted a gold-colored car launching off the bridge and landing on the ice below over the Gatineau River. Simpson initially feared it was a fatal crash but was astonished when a young man emerged from the car unharmed.
Believing it was a miracle, Simpson, 40, was prepared to rescue the man using his safety ropes and harnesses. Fortunately, the driver managed to walk to shore with some assistance despite being cold and wet. Simpson guided him up the riverbank, jokingly mentioning that he now had eight lives left instead of nine.
When emergency services arrived, they were astounded by the situation. Despite the clear road conditions on the day of the incident, as confirmed by Transports Québec, the driver’s vehicle flew off the bridge edge after a minor collision with another car. The driver, although seemingly uninjured, was taken to the hospital for observation by Quebec provincial police.
Simpson, after ensuring the driver’s safety, continued his journey to the gym, emphasizing the importance of not skipping leg day. The incident has sparked an investigation by Quebec police, but no charges have been filed yet.
The remarkable rescue and survival story have left many amazed, including first responders who initially couldn’t believe the driver had survived the harrowing fall off the bridge. The entire event was captured on a traffic camera, showcasing the miraculous escape from what could have been a tragic accident.
