“Renowned Indian Rally Driver Hari Singh Missing After Maldives Speedboat Accident”

National"Renowned Indian Rally Driver Hari Singh Missing After Maldives Speedboat Accident"

After an extensive search operation in the Maldives, the search for renowned Indian rally driver Hari Singh concluded without any success following a speedboat accident. His family held a final prayer ceremony in Chandigarh to honor Singh, also known as the “Gypsy King”, who went missing after the March 19 incident involving Raymond Group Chairman and Managing Director Gautam Singhania.

While Singhania was rescued, Singh and the boat’s captain, Mahesh Ramachandran, a former naval officer, remained unaccounted for. Maldivian authorities, supported by the Indian government, conducted a thorough search effort for over eight days, surpassing the standard 72-hour rescue timeframe. Divers, drones, light aircraft, and boats extensively searched the sea near Felidhoo Island in the Maldives.

Despite the intensive search, no trace of Singh, a five-time national champion, was found, leading to the official termination of the search on March 28. Singh was a prominent figure in Indian motorsport, earning the nickname “Gypsy King” for his rallying prowess, particularly in the Maruti Gypsy known for its challenging handling at high speeds, which Singh expertly maneuvered with technical precision.

During the 1990s, Singh clinched the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) title five times, demonstrating his dominance on dirt tracks. He also made history by winning the inaugural Asia Zone Rally Championship, showcasing Indian drivers’ capabilities on the global stage. Following his retirement from competitive racing, Singh assumed roles at JK Tyre Motorsport and Mercedes-Benz India, mentoring numerous top Indian racers.
