“Iceman,” the much-anticipated album that Drake teased with a striking ice structure in downtown Toronto and live-streamed episodes, secured the No. 1 position on the chart. Following closely behind, “Habibti” claimed the No. 2 spot, while “Maid of Honour” landed at No. 3.
With “Iceman” becoming Drake’s 15th album to reach the No. 1 spot on the chart, he has now tied with Taylor Swift for the most solo No. 1 albums. All three albums were released on May 15, with “Habibti” and “Maid of Honour” surprising fans with their sudden debut.
Each of the three albums showcases distinct sounds and themes. “Iceman” predominantly delves into rap, addressing Drake’s conflicts with Kendrick Lamar and Universal Music Group. The track “Make Them Cry” opens the album with Drake confronting these issues head-on. In contrast, “Habibti” takes a softer approach, focusing on love and relationships through songs like “Slap the City” and “Classic.”
“Maid of Honour” stands out as the most experimental of the trio, blending elements of Chicago juke in tracks like “Outside Tweaking” and incorporating 80s synths in “Goose and the Juice.” The album also features catchy samples, such as Peggy Gou’s “(It Goes Like) Nanana” in “Cheetah Print” and DJ Casper’s “Cha Cha Slide.”
