The show had a successful run, winning 16 Screen Awards in its debut season after securing 13 accolades from 18 nominations during the previous night’s gala.
Another Canadian hit, the CBC/Netflix comedy “North of North,” secured victories for best comedy series and best lead performer, Anna Lambe, in addition to its seven wins from the previous night, which included accolades for writing and supporting performance. The series set in Nunavut received 20 nominations.
In the motion picture category, the comedy “Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie” stood out, winning the best picture award over R.T. Thorne’s thriller “40 Acres.”
Jay McCarrol, a Toronto-born musician and composer, was recognized for his leading role in the film adaptation of the cult classic series, earning the best performance award. The film also won six other awards, including best supporting performance in a comedy for Matt Johnson, who also directed and co-wrote the production.
