The Seattle Torrent secured a 6-4 victory over the Toronto Sceptres on Tuesday night in Seattle, ending their three-game losing streak. Lexie Adzija scored the first short-handed goal of the season for Seattle in the third period to take the lead. The Torrent, an expansion team, set a new franchise record by scoring six goals in a single game, the most in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) this season. In total, the game saw 10 goals, the highest in a PWHL match this season. Earlier, the Frost had set the previous high with eight goals in a game on Jan. 11.
Seattle’s Jessie Eldridge contributed with a goal and two assists, while Hannah Bilka added a goal and an assist. Hilary Knight, Julia Gosling, and Megan Carter, who previously played for Toronto, also scored for the Torrent. Carter’s goal marked her first career goal and the first by a Seattle defender this season, extending Seattle’s lead to 5-3 with 14:34 left in the game. Seattle’s goaltender, Corinne Schroeder, made 31 saves to secure the win.
On the other side, Toronto’s Blayre Turnbull, Jesse Compher, Kali Flanagan, and Natalie Spooner found the back of the net. Turnbull opened the scoring just 78 seconds into the game, and Compher quickly added another goal to give Toronto a 2-0 lead. Flanagan scored her first goal of the season in the second period to tie the game at 3-3.
The Toronto Sceptres will face the Vancouver Goldeneyes next, while the Seattle Torrent will play against the Vancouver Goldeneyes at Ball Arena in Denver on Sunday as part of the PWHL’s Takeover Tour.
