“Gold Prices and Global Tensions Alter Akshaya Tritiya Celebrations”

Business"Gold Prices and Global Tensions Alter Akshaya Tritiya Celebrations"

Akshaya Tritiya celebrations this year deviated from the norm due to soaring gold prices and escalating global tensions, causing potential buyers to exercise caution before making purchases. Despite these challenges, there was a noticeable festive buzz, with jewelry stores still attracting steady foot traffic.

The ongoing geopolitical conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran have injected uncertainty into global markets, driving gold and silver prices closer to their peak levels and impacting the value of the Indian rupee. At present, MCX gold is priced at Rs 1,53,370, down by Rs 1,239, while MCX silver stands at Rs 2,51,771, marking a decrease of Rs 5,371.

The fluctuating prices have prompted buyers to adopt a more conservative approach, particularly for significant jewelry acquisitions. This year, there was a shift towards purchasing gold coins and bars, perceived as more secure investments during volatile periods and easier to liquidate if necessary. Additionally, consumers displayed a preference for lighter, everyday jewelry over traditional bulky pieces.

Noteworthy changes in consumer preferences were highlighted by Eshwar Surana, Managing Director of Raj Diamonds, who observed a growing interest in investing in diamond jewelry alongside gold purchases. With a surge in demand, particularly driven by the wedding season, customers showed a preference for premium diamond collections that offer both value and versatility in everyday wear.

Market experts anticipate continued fluctuations in gold and silver prices in the near future. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, emphasized the potential for gold to rise towards Rs 1,57,000–Rs 1,58,000 if it surpasses Rs 1,55,000, while cautioning against downside risks if it falls below Rs 1,52,500. Regarding silver, he projected potential resistance levels at Rs 2,55,000–Rs 2,60,000 and upside potential to Rs 2,68,000–Rs 2,70,000.

Looking ahead, the future demand for gold and silver will be influenced by evolving global tensions and currency fluctuations. If uncertainty persists, gold may retain its allure as a safe-haven asset; however, price volatility is expected to continue. Buyers are likely to proceed with more calculated and selective purchases, favoring coins, bars, and lightweight jewelry over extravagant buys. Despite the changing landscape, the enduring cultural significance of owning gold persists, reflecting a blend of tradition and prudent decision-making in acquiring this precious metal.
