Uganda’s army chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has put forth two requests to Turkey. Initially, Kainerugaba asked for $1 billion as compensation for Uganda’s extensive military efforts in Somalia against Islamic militants. The second, seemingly made in a light-hearted manner, was a request for “the most beautiful woman in that country” to be his spouse.
Despite facing criticism for his demands, this behavior is not unprecedented for Kainerugaba. Back in 2022, he offered 100 cows to Italy in exchange for marrying the country’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.
In a recent development, Kainerugaba has now sought the hand of the most beautiful Turkish woman as his wife. Should Turkey fail to meet his requests within a 30-day timeframe, Kainerugaba has warned of severe diplomatic repercussions, including the potential closure of Turkey’s embassy in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
General Kainerugaba, who is the son of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, took to social media to express his grievances towards Turkey. He accused Turkey of benefiting from infrastructure projects in Somalia while Uganda bore the brunt of security responsibilities in combating Al-Shabab militants for nearly two decades.
Alongside the demand for $1 billion as a security contribution, Kainerugaba added a personal request for a Turkish wife. Failure to comply could lead to Kampala restricting Turkish Airlines’ operations in Ugandan airspace and cutting off diplomatic ties with Ankara.
Furthermore, Kainerugaba emphasized the seriousness of Uganda’s relationship with Turkey and threatened to sever diplomatic relations if the issues were not addressed promptly. He urged Ugandans to avoid travel to Turkey for safety reasons and expressed support for Israel, offering to deploy Ugandan troops to protect the Holy Land.
Known for his unconventional and sexist demands, Kainerugaba has a history of making controversial statements. From offering cows in exchange for marriages to issuing threats against neighboring countries, his actions have sparked both intrigue and criticism.
As of now, there has been no public response from Turkish or Somali authorities regarding Kainerugaba’s recent demands. It remains unclear whether the statements represent Uganda’s official position or the personal views of the General.
