US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to travel to New Delhi next month following a productive meeting with India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Washington. Discussions between the two officials encompassed various topics, including trade relations and the Quad alliance.
During Misri’s three-day visit to the US capital, he engaged with Rubio at the White House to review the bilateral ties, with a particular focus on trade, critical minerals, defense, and the Quad cooperation.
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, who participated in the meeting, tweeted about the discussions, highlighting the emphasis on bilateral relations, trade, critical minerals, defense, and the Quad. Secretary Rubio expressed his anticipation for the upcoming visit to India, as conveyed by Gor.
Earlier engagements included separate meetings between Misri and US Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau, as well as US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker. These interactions reinforced the strong partnership between the two nations and exchanged insights on global priorities, including the Persian Gulf situation.
Hooker emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration between India and the US in security, defense, and economic realms, aiming to bolster safety and prosperity for both nations through initiatives like the Quad alliance. The Indian embassy in the US reported that Hooker and Misri reviewed the bilateral agenda following the Foreign Office Consultations from the previous December, in addition to sharing perspectives on developments in West Asia and other regional issues.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance is leading a delegation to Islamabad for discussions with Iranian leaders subsequent to a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan between the conflicting parties.
